
Practicing Motor Skills in Lucid Dreams
Two controlled pilots found that rehearsing a movement inside a lucid dream improved waking performance - coin tossing and darts both got better. The effect is real but small, depends on a focused dream, and supplements physical practice rather than replacing it.
In Erlacher and Schredl's (2010) study, the people who practiced a coin-tossing task inside a lucid dream improved from 3.7 to 5.3 hits out of 20. The people who didn't practice lucidly got no better. That single result is the reason "practice while you sleep" is more than a slogan.

The two studies
The evidence rests on two controlled pilots from the same research group.

Schädlich, Erlacher, and Schredl (2017) moved to a sleep lab with a darts task. It can't be scheduled. The input is a lucid dream, and no induction technique reliably produces one on a given night, so you cannot plan dream reps the way you plan physical ones.
It doesn't build the body. Dream practice may rehearse a motor pattern, but it provides no conditioning, load, or real-world feedback. It sits alongside physical training, never in place of it.
